Kiko

A companion robot that recognises its owner.

  • Runs on the robot
  • Knows one owner
  • Built in Berlin

Capabilities

What Kiko does

  • Owner recognition

Kiko learns one person's face and body at setup and tells that person apart from everyone else in the room.

  • Following

Kiko keeps a set distance behind its owner, through turns and past other people, and searches calmly when it loses them.

  • Voice and face

Kiko listens for its name, answers in a short sentence and shows what it is doing on a screen face.

How Kiko thinks

From the room to a move

  1. Sense

Cameras, microphones, touch pads and distance sensors take in the room.

  2. Understand

Kiko finds the people around it, picks out its owner and hears its name.

  3. Decide

Kiko chooses what to do next. Follow, search, answer, react or film.

  4. Act

Wheels, face, voice and the camera mast carry it out.

  5. On the robot

All of it runs on a Jetson with ROS 2. Nothing goes to a server.
