About
Barycenter Lab
A barycenter is the point two bodies orbit together. Neither one is the centre. The centre is shared. That is how we think about people and robots in the same home.
How we work
Self-funded, by me and my team.
Barycenter Lab has no outside money yet. The three of us fund it ourselves, because we believe in Kiko. We have no lab or workshop, so we bought our own tools and taught ourselves what we did not know. Two professors guide us along the way.
Made by us
Design
We shape Kiko's body in Fusion 360.
Source
We pick every part from shops across Germany.
Solder
We wire and solder the electronics by hand.
Code
We write the vision and behaviour software that runs on the robot.
Print
We 3D print the body ourselves.
Test
We record our own data and test every change.
Every step of Kiko is ours. We show the work as we build it.
Follow the buildWhat we believe
Three principles
Private by default
What Kiko sees stays on Kiko. Nothing goes to a server.
Built for one person
Kiko learns one owner and gets to know them better over time.
Made in the open
We share what we build, what works and what does not, in the build log.
The team
Who we are
Barycenter Lab is a robotics lab in Berlin, founded in 2026 by three engineers. Kiko is our first robot.
Where we are going
Roadmap
Now
Kiko, version one
Building the first Kiko in Berlin. Owner recognition, following, voice and a face.
Next
Research
We publish how Kiko finds its owner, and what we measured.
Later
Kiko, version two
A new Kiko, shaped by what we learn from the first one.
The long view
A shared centre
People and robots sharing homes and work.
