Kiko by Barycenter Lab

Born curious.Kiko learns you the way a child learns the world.

A small home robot that knows its owner, follows them, films short reels and talks.

  • Runs on the robot
  • Knows one owner
  • Built in Berlin

Independent lab

Self-funded. Built by hand.

Barycenter Lab is funded by its three founders. Every part, tool and print so far comes from our own pockets. We do the design, the wiring, the code and the testing ourselves, at a desk in Berlin.

Capabilities

What Kiko does

  • Owner recognition

Kiko learns one person's face and body at setup and tells that person apart from everyone else in the room.

  • Following

Kiko keeps a set distance behind its owner, through turns and past other people, and searches calmly when it loses them.

  • Voice and face

Kiko listens for its name, answers in a short sentence and shows what it is doing on a screen face.

Kiko's mind

Six things, all the time

Tap a part of the ring to see what it does. All six run on Kiko itself.

Perceive

Cameras, microphones and touch tell Kiko what is around it.

Kiko

Architecture

How it works

  1. Sense

Cameras, microphones, touch pads and distance sensors take in the room.

  2. Understand

Kiko finds the people around it, picks out its owner and hears its name.

  3. Decide

Kiko chooses what to do next. Follow, search, answer, react or film.

  4. Act

Wheels, face, voice and the camera mast carry it out.

Vision and behaviour run on a Jetson with ROS 2.

Privacy

Privacy by design

  • Kiko stores only its owner's data, on the robot itself.
  • Faces of other people are not saved.
  • Nothing is sent to a server.
  • A robot with a camera lives in your home. What it sees should stay in your home.

Barycenter

The lab

A barycenter is the point two bodies orbit together. Neither one is the centre. The centre is shared. That is how we think about people and robots in the same home.

Barycenter Lab is a robotics lab in Berlin, founded in 2026 by three engineers. Kiko is our first robot.

Follow the build

We build Kiko on a bench in Berlin and write down each step.

  1. Kiko gets a voice

The speaker played Kiko's first words.

  2. Kiko has a face

The screen showed Kiko's eyes for the first time.

  3. Vision on the GPU

Kiko's vision now runs on the Jetson's GPU.
